Was rushing to work this morning, catching the train and such, although driving a car in Singapore is an expensive thing but it may be a good thing. Based on this morning experience in the mad rush to the office here are some thought that clouded my mind as I encountered some “obstructions” in my mad rush to work.

The lady is lazy

The lady is lazy symptom, ladies please for goodness sake take your EZlink card out of that freaking Gucci’s of yours, everyone is rushing out of the gate and I get held up by some lady rubbing her freaking handbag over the sensor multiple times attempting to get the card hidden inside her handbag to read.

The door is closing, please squeeze through the gap

Okay okay, it happened to me before so I’ll be more political about it, ha. It’s when some buggers, apparently me as well :P try to squeeze though the closing door just before it closes, a successful attempt would lead to you catching the train and not piss people off, but if you fail and something or some parts get stuck the door would open up agian and you cause a hold up :(. Almost did it this morning, think this is the last time I’m gonna ever do this.

The right side

Everyone knows the right side of the escalator is for “fast” moving traffic, but there are some buggers who just cannot get that idea into their heads, if you are freaking gonna keep on the left side then freaking move! It’s a hold up when some bugger just decides to stand and let the ride take them up.

Ghosts in the cabin

Seems casper is visiting us, there are spots in the train where empty space just fills the ermz well space. Like some ghost of foreign entity is taking up that space. For goodness sake just move in a little so those who are in need to reach the office get to the office and it’s called public transport for a reason right?

Did something a lil stupid today, I rushed to get onto a train carriage when the door was closing. Duh, bag got a little stuck and had to force the bloody door open.

I learnt 2 things from this experience

  1. Never rush for a closing MRT door.
  2. MRT doors are very strong, it’s quite hard to force them open.

Thank God neither me nor my stuff incurred much damage except for the crumpler which was left with a black mark as it’s war scar. Nevertheless the door won and I ran away unharmed. Phew

Was going through the papers today to see the starhub promotion on the Xbox 360, it was pretty ridiculous if you should tell me. The reason being that the Xbox 360 comes in 2 flavours. The CORE system and the PREMIUM sets. So what’s all the hoo haa with the Xbox 360 that Starhub is offering.

1st of all I have to freaking top-up $299 for

  • Xbox 360™ Core System
  • Kameo: Elements of Power
  • 64MB Memory unit
  • 12-month Xbox Live Gold subscription
  • 10% OFF MaxOnline monthly subscription

What’s so great about that? $299, FYI dudes a new CORE system cost SG$535 and I do not need your Game, Memory Unit or your 12 months subscription! Why can’t you guys get it right?

Here is what I guess we want to see. The XBOX 360 Premium/Pro system. It costs $660 SGD and it’s less then what you guys throw in all the games and memory card. This sucks, and Xbox promos run for a long time. I think it’s about time I reviewed my house Broadband policy and think about doing a switch. With all the buggers getting onto MaxOnline it’s starting to look like MaxOffline.

  • Console
  • Hard Drive
  • Wireless Controller
  • Xbox Live Headset
  • Component HD AV Cable
  • Ethernet Cable

HD AV cable! That’s important also, argh it kinna stinks but what’s the point. Anyway I feel it’s about time that broadband prices get reviewed, it’s reaching critical mass in Singapore and more and more are getting on the bandwagon. I do not get the speeds I use to get, in fact it’s getting slower and I wonder if one day I’ll be back on 56KBps and not feel a difference, BUT I’m still paying the same prices, wats up with that?

Starhub Promotion?

Think I’ll wait out for the PS3, does not pay to be an early adopter anyway end of the day no matter how fancy your system looks it’s just a system. Not like it’s gonna win you an award or anything.

It seems that my IP is banned from Animepaper.net I wonder why pehaps I’ll take a look at that website tomorrow duing my lunch break. This really sucks, why why why?

Animepaper Moderator, please unban my IP address?

Started on my training, I’m getting old. It’s harder to pick myself up regardless of my condition and put on those blue running shoes and get on the road to do a run. It’s R-Day + 9 and arriving at the 2nd day of the 2nd week. Still struggling to push furthur. But hey it took me months to get to where I was, and years to gain back. So I’m gonna motivate myself on that note. It’s not going to be an easy task I have to admit. Having to juggle work, studies and weariness all crashing down at the same time is making me break but I think it’s for the better. To excel is what I should be looking for, I pray for strength to carry on each day.

Had this sinking feeling today, felt so horrible as we were about to leave the company for a night out at Chinatown, my tummy suddenly did not want to coporate with me. It just went kaput and I visited the toilet for 3 times before leaving for Chinatown and it was still in a crap state when we reached the makan place. Felt so bad, I could not eat, smelling the food made it worse. It only settled when we were about to go back. What the heck! Damn it, skipped dinner so typing this out now. Anyway I’ve still got my assignment which I’ve hardly started and my exams are around the corner. Need to get back on track, those who know me please keep me in prayer. I need discipline in my life, so those around please do encourage me if possible.

Next week gonna start on the long track. I wonder if I can make it? Hai~ 5 more days to the truth. Ganbatte!

What do you guys make of the line above? My friend actually intepreted it as I’m earning $3,400 per mth. Actually yeah that’s what I’ll probobaly earn later in my life, but for not it’s not the case. I’ll need to stinge and save about $500/mth so that I can aquire a mac, but MacOS X is going to run on Intels and it’s already doing that.

Check out OS X86 Project

If MacOSx does eventually run on the many Intel machines all over the world, perhaps I should just wait for the OS.

A friend of mine recently commented that Windows, Vista is going to change the way I look at MacOS X, I wonder why. Perhaps Vista is really going to be the next big thing, but I heard the basic requirements for install Vista is at least 1GB of ram and 8GB of harddisk space. What the heck is there in the Operating System? I still remember the good old days of dos when you would only need a disk to contain the whole operating system. So what’s up with all the requirements?

Anyway the main point that I wanna say is, Christa I dun earn $3,400 / mth, so dun wah. :P

I sent out a letter to their customer support department regarding how loyal customers are given less offers then new sign ups. First, during a road show at Sitex, new customers are given a free game, upon enquiring about recontracting, existing customers were not given the same deal.

I wrote them a little letter regarding this, actually I was expecting more from them to sweeten up the deal. Aparrantly they thought that I only wanted the game. What the heck? Almost 6 years with cable and this is the crap they are giving me? I decided to jump from Singtel Magix to Maxonline and this is what I’m getting? I dun need an Xbox, but I sure need a notebook.

So I went out and did a little research and reading up on the cost of retaining a existing ISP customer as compared to getting a new one signed up. According to The Wise Marketer the cost of retaining a existing customer is only $100 USD as compared to $400 USD for a new one, and the cost gets higher as the ISPs, Starhub, Singtel and PacNET “steal” from each other. So what the hell? If I cost so little to retain then why dun give me a better deal to sweeten us both up. I remain a loyal customer and you remain a happy ISP.

I really do not get the Starhub mentality, maybe it’s just me or maybe they really not trying to keep customers I would not know really. I kinna upset even through my mail got through, they offered me the game, but face it who needs the game? I hope the ISP services get better in keeping customers. It’s very sad to know that I’m only worth a game, a Quake 4 game. Damn sad I tell you!

I also heard that some corprate deals out there offering 10% off the 6500 plan, but when you sign for 2 years is the plan not at 10% off for the contract period?

Hey dudes and dudettes who do come here to view my little hideout, anyway I’m back from problems with the hosting server actually it’s quite complicated. My sponsor, OurLifeXP.com had problems with his hosting people and thus it affected my site as well. Anyway we have shifted and all is well and I’m back here online to start with my writing again.

While the blog got disconnected from everyone who reads, I’ve been busy doing up stuff as well as hunting for a new theme for the site. (Sorry guys I’m not skilled enough to get my own skin done yet). SerSiTiv.com is back online and ready to accept comments.

It’s been quite a journey during this time of solitude from SerSiTiv.com and the year end appraisals have been done, 1/2 my assignment has been done, school is getting harder and I’m learning Linux commands from a nice collegue of mine. I’ve a lot of things to say but I’m trying my best to find the time to put my thoughts down into this website for people to get to know me better. Changes to the site layout will happen from time to time as I optimize it for my faithful readers to have easier navigation of the site.

BTW Starhub is still not offering a good deal to keep this loyal customer of theirs with their broadband plans. 6 years no loyalty rewards or anything, I’m quite tired, if Singnet can offer me a Thinkpad and for free with 3 years sign up how come Starhub cannot do the same and I have to pay $900 for a Centrino Compaq notebook?

Till later I’ll just stop here for now. Peace out!

Today I experienced Internet downtime at my Office for 1 hour. The reason being that my router disconnected itself, but Singnet held on to my Internet session tightly and refused to let go! The time was 5:50pm as I called the Singnet helpline to be greeted by the customer support who requested me to call the Singnet business helpdesk which was going to close at 6:00pm!

I made the call to be greeted by a foreigner who server me half heartly, as if he was trying to leave work on time. The personnel requested me to fax the company letterhead, and a whole load of information to them so that they can get their supervisor to do a reset or I could remove the modem and wait for Singnet to do a timeout of the session.

I considered the fact that it would take me sometime before I can get the letterhead and all the information. I choose the latter as the helpdesk personel sounded like he was in a rush to leave and it would be worse if I just faxed the document and the office helpdesk office was already empty. So I waited for 15 minutes, the period of time the helpdesk requested me to wait. Pluged it in and to no avail, the Internet connection was still down.

Work needed to be done and I really had to get the connection up. With no other options I called the consumer department. This fella was helpful enough, although I knew he was new to the job as he sounded unsure of some procedures he was most willing to serve me to the fullest and went back and forth to get me connection up. After about 20 minutes of exchaning information my Internet session was resetted and everything was back to normal. I also gathered that the Consumer Helpdesk was not to help the Business clients.

This started me thinking, how come the business service support group only services customers till 6pm? Everyone would like to go home early, no doubt but there are times when work has to be done and completed and the work requires uploading files to servers then what would happen?

As a registered business, service plans are more expensive then the consumer plans but in terms of service I’m getting less hours of support? Why must there be a seperation of departments where Business handles business customers and Consumer, consumer customers? Why can’t the two departments work together? Even if you say it’s to provide customized services, I do not see any customization when I called the business helpdesk at all.

It’s true that there maybe a security issue where others may make use of the company’s Internet connection for spoofing perhaps? But there is also another side of the story where the company is rushing to upload a website when the Internet goes down. So how can this issue be resolved? As much as the consumer side should not be concerned with the business helpdesk but some exceptions can be made. To allow us to reach world class standards in service, we have to start from where things matter. We need to look into our professionalism and working attitudes in someway we have become complacent and think that we are better then others.

Lets put it this way, I’m not popular. See the fight try it out for yourself and see how you fair againest your friends

Here is a pretty interesting interview by CNNNN or something I not sure but they took to the streets. Aparrantly they just stuck some name of the country onto Australia and everyone just stuck the flag there for the coutry they thought would hit with terrorism. This is hillarious, well at least this is one thing our education system is good for.

Signs

Being in the tech line, there are stuff I read in there that make sense. But then again, I think the place I work in does not really has some of the restrictions, cause I work alone.

Schedule bullies do not only apply to the IT industry, many industries including businesses also experience the overtime phenomenon because notthing in this world is realistic, it’s all about pacifying your customer.

Currently I just lost about 40GB worth of data, and there seems to be no way to retrieve them. My assignments are in there, address book, photos of friends etc etc. There is a lot of stuff in there and are gonna be lost if there is no way to retrieve them. I’m quite devistated! So if there are people there who know how to recover a dead HDD, can read and see on partition but the rest is no go. Then please help me!

Praying hard…

Updates: Currently I just got myself a torx 4 screw driver to remove the power board from the HDD, will try tonight by swapping out one with the one on my laptop, all I pray for is to retrieve the important data. That’s all.

Only managed to remove 3 or the screws on the other HDD, got to go and get the Torx 5. Lord please do a miracle. *sobs
